Updated Malwarebytes and it locked up my computer
I had been running the free version of Malwarebytes for several years without a problem. Today I got a notice that a newer version was available so I went through the process of updating.
After a time it became apparent that something was wrong. The computer was running very slowly and nothing new would load. I decided to just shut it down and reboot, hoping that would solve the problem. Easier said than done.
Nothing I did would shut it down, and I got a message that the Malwarebytes app was preventing the shutdown. In desperation I pulled the power cord, and it finally shut down.
The problem then became rebooting the thing. I got as far as putting in my PIN and then after about 30 seconds just got a black screen. I tried rebooting several times without much improvement.
After bringing up the Task Manager, I found that the Malwarebytes app was still running. I tried ending the task, and after several attempts at that, it finally did end. I rebooted one more time and finally was able to load windows. The first thing I did after checking to make sure everything was working properly again was to remove Malwarebytes from my computer.
I did not try to contact the company because my computer was inoperable so I didn't have their number. Also, since I was running the free version, I didn't know if they provided support for that.
Reason of review: software caused temporary problems with my computer.
Malwarebytes Pros: Older malwarebytes version, Free.
Malwarebytes Cons: Newer version which locked up my computer.
